Class of Lies is an American teen drama series created for Snapchat as part of their venture into scripted streaming content for mobile devices.[1] Developed as a joint venture between Snapchat and NBCUniversal, the show is executive produced by Mark Boal, who wrote and produced the Oscar-winning film The Hurt Locker and the Oscar-nominated film Zero Dark Thirty.[2][3] The series' main characters are Devon (Camille Ramsey) and Missy (Tatsumi Romano), best friends and college roommates who crack cold cases on their successful true-crime podcast.[4][5] Their lives quickly turn upside down when their best friend disappears without a trace, leaving the two true-crime podcasters responsible for solving their most important case yet.[6] The series was written by Riverdale writer Tessa Leigh Williams[7][8] and won the 2019 Writers Guild of America (WGA) award for Best Original Short Form New Media.[9] The entire series was filmed and edited vertically, as a way of introducing a new method of viewing streaming content.[10][11] The series is among a list of shows branded as Snap Originals[12] and was the company's introduction to TV-like programming.[13][14] Additionally, viewers are able to interact with the series through augmented reality features such as Show Portals,[15] which allow viewers to enter Missy and Devon's dorm room and explore the premises.[16][17]

Cast and characters

  • Camille Ramsey as Devon, a 19-year-old college student with an obsession for true crime.[18] Devon is much more "out there" than the sort-of-prim Missy. Devon has had her share of drunken one-night-stands, and will probably have more.[19] She hosts a true-crime podcast with her best friend, Missy.[20]
  • Tatsumi Romano as Missy, a 19-year old, college-sweatshirt wearing, Type A student at Bettencourt University.[21] She hosts a true-crime podcast with her roommate, Devon, and uses her STEM skills to solve complex cases.[22] Happy but reserved, Missy is a gifted armchair detective who is about to tackle her biggest case yet.
  • Lukas Gage as Tiger, a frat guy with more information than what appears on the surface.
  • Lee Rodriguez as Bea, a close friend of Devon and Missy who goes missing after a night out.[23][24]
  • Frank Cappello as Anderson, a popular TA who is intimately involved with Devon.
