Шаблон:Oriental Orthodox sidebar The Council of Ashtishat[1] (Шаблон:Lang-hy) called by Saint Nerses, catholicos of the Armenian church in 354 AD,[2] was the first ever council of bishops in Armenia.[3] It was held in Ashtishat, the location of mother church of Armenia.

The council saw the drafting of canons and rules for church administration and was part of the process of establishing the Armenian canon of the Bible.[4][5] It also set standards[6][7] for moral aspects of public life[8] and laws to protect the family.[9]
