Daniel Alexander Ige (born August 6, 1991) is an American professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A professional since 2014, he has also competed for the Legacy Fighting Championship, Pancrase, the RFA, and Titan FC. As of February 13, 2024, he is #12 in the UFC featherweight rankings.[1]

Mixed martial arts career

Ige started his career out with 10 amateur fights. He compiled an 8–2 record before going pro. He started his pro career with a 2–1 record. He then rattled off six straight victories competing for various regional promotions including a win on Dana White's Contender Series 3.[2]

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Ige signed with the UFC after earning a victory on Dana White's Contender Series (DWCS). He was expected to face Charles Rosa in his debut at UFC 220. However, Rosa pulled out of the fight citing a neck injury.[3] Ige remained on the card and faced fellow newcomer and DWCS alum Julio Arce. He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[4]

Ige faced Mike Santiago on June 9, 2018, at UFC 225.[5] He won the fight via TKO in the first round.[6]

Ige faced promotional newcomer Jordan Griffin on December 15, 2018, at UFC on Fox 31.[7] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[8]

Ige faced Danny Henry on March 16, 2019, at UFC Fight Night 147.[9] He won the fight via a rear-naked choke submission in the first round.[10] The win also earned Ige his first Performance of the Night bonus award.[11]

Ige faced Kevin Aguilar on June 22, 2019, at UFC Fight Night 154.[12] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[13]

Ige faced Mirsad Bektić on February 8, 2020, at UFC 247.[14] He won the fight via a split decision.[15]

Ige faced Edson Barboza on May 16, 2020, at UFC on ESPN: Overeem vs. Harris.[16] He won the back-and-forth bout via split decision.[17] 16 out of 18 MMA media outlets scored the bout in favor of Barboza.[18]

Ige faced Calvin Kattar on July 16, 2020, at UFC on ESPN: Kattar vs. Ige.[19] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[20]

Ige was scheduled to face Ryan Hall on March 13, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 187.[21] However, Hall pulled out of the fight on February 11 due to undisclosed reasons.[22] Instead, Ige faced off against Gavin Tucker at UFC Fight Night 187. He won the fight via knockout in the first round.[23] This win earned him the Performance of the Night award.[24]

Ige faced Chan Sung Jung at UFC on ESPN 25 on June 19, 2021.[25] He lost the fight via unanimous decision, getting outgrappled throughout the fight.[26]

Ige faced Josh Emmett on December 11, 2021, at UFC 269.[27] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[28]

Ige faced Movsar Evloev on June 4, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 207.[29] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[30]

Ige faced Damon Jackson January 14, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 217.[31] He won the fight via knockout in the second round.[32] This win earned him the Performance of the Night bonus.[33]

Ige faced Nate Landwehr on June 10, 2023, at UFC 289.[34] He won the bout via unanimous decision.[35]

Ige faced Bryce Mitchell on September 23, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 228.[36] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[37]

Ige was scheduled to face Lerone Murphy on February 10, 2024, at UFC Fight Night 236.[38] However, Murphy pulled out in mid January due to an undisclosed injury,[39] and he was replaced by Andre Fili.[40] Ige won the bout by first-round knockout.[41] This fight earned him another Performance of the Night award.[42]

Personal life

Ige and his wife Savannah have a son, born in 2021.[43] Dan wrestled collegiately at NCAA DIII Wartburg College in Waverly, Ia.[44]
