Шаблон:Short description Шаблон:Infobox officeholder David McRae is an American politician from Mississippi. A member of the Republican Party, McRae has been Mississippi State Treasurer since 2020, having been elected in the 2019 election.

Career before politics

McRae's family owned department stores.[1] After graduating from Jackson Preparatory School in 2000,[2] he graduated from Southern Methodist University and the Mississippi College School of Law.[3]

McRae manages his family's investments,[1][4] as managing partner of McRae Investments.[3] He is also an attorney.[5]

Political career

McRae ran for Mississippi State Treasurer in the 2015 election, losing in the Republican primary election to incumbent Lynn Fitch.[1] When Fitch chose to run for Attorney General of Mississippi in the 2019 Mississippi elections. McRae ran for treasurer again against Eugene "Buck" Clarke, an accountant and state senator, in the Republican primary.[1] McRae announced his candidacy in 2018,[4] and spent heavily in the primary,[1] loaning his campaign $1.7 million.[6] McRae was endorsed by the outgoing Republican governor, Phil Bryant.[1] McRae defeated Clarke in the primary,[7] and then won the November 2019 general election with 60.8% of the vote.[8]

McRae was sworn in as State Treasurer on January 9, 2020.[9] He was sworn in to a second term on January 4, 2024. [10]

Personal life

McRae lives in Ridgeland, Mississippi,[6][3] in the Jackson area.[4] He is married and has three children.[3]
