Hedviga Golik (born 1924),[1] was a resident of Zagreb, Croatia,[2] who died of apparently of unknown natural causes alone in her apartment and whose body remained undisturbed for forty-two years until her remains were discovered in May 2008.[3][4]

Death and speculation

Hedviga Golik's story began in 1966[5][6] when she prepared a cup of tea for herself[7] and settled down to watch television in her apartment in Zagreb,[8] before which was the last time that she was seen by anyone as she then died from an unknown reason. Golik was later reported missing.

Discovery of body

When the police finally entered her apartment on May 12, 2008,[9] and discovered her dead body sitting in the chair in front of her TV. They described the scene as if they had stepped into a moment frozen in time. Her teacup, which she had been sipping from, remained untouched on a table next to her chair. The apartment was filled with items that hadn't been seen for decades. Nothing in her home had been disturbed for all those years, even though it was adorned with numerous cobwebs.[10] The police removed her body from her apartment to be taken care of.

Aftermath

Golik's body was buried the following Tuesday, and her death has become the subject of news around the world and there have been many videos made about it.[11]
