Dr. Deerghasi Vizai Bhaskar, born in 1958, in Ampolu village of Srikakulam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He hails from a poor family and started writing dramas when he was twenty two years . His debut play was Turpu Tellanrindi which portrayed the woes of Weavers . Though he started his literary career with short story writing on the advice of Kalipatnam master switched over to Play writing under the guidance of S . K . MISRO a veteran stage director . His interest in theater made him pursue academics in the field of theater, and he submitted a thesis o Bertolt Brecht's influence on Telugu drama..[1][2]
Literature
Dr D Vizai Bhaskar imbibed a spirit of democratic struggle against social and political oppression by reasons of caste, demography and political system. He draws his themes from the agony of human predicament prevalent in our rural society. He often employs the mythopoejc and folklore concepts to awaken the rural masses, Since their cultural foundations are deep rooted in the perceptions of yesteryears. He also draws a powerful sense of humour with all its shades of satire and to inspire and provoke them for an effective realization of them goal. As he takes drama and theatre as a powerful means of social change.
His sense of social commitment and social responsibility brought him several awards, six times Nandi Awards at state level competitions for the best playwriting and the most covered Central Sangeet Natak Pursaskar-2010. A good number of his plays were translated into several Indian languages. Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengal, Manipuri, Malayalam and English and won equal appreciation and acclaim from all the sections of the audience. It is no exaggeration to say that he emerged as a powerful pan Indian playwright of recent times.
Recognition
Vizai Bhaskar's dramas have been adopted by the Karnataka Nataka Akademi in the year 2010 to be played on stage as part of a Kannada-Telugu theater collaboration.[3] Vizia Bhaskar mentions in an interview with The Hindu that the play Gandhi Jayanthi was translated into seven languages in addition to English and that his drama Puli Swari was staged 150 times.[4]

- Nandi Award : Best writer award for the years 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2011.[6]
- Sri Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University award in 2004
- Sangeeta Natak Kala Academy award for the year 2010 for best playwright.[7]
- Delhi Telugu Akademi award for excellence in Telugu literature for the year 2011
- Gurajada Sahitee Puraskaram for the year 2012 conferred by Government of Andhra Pradesh.
