Dushyant Dubey is an Indian social activist, known for providing social help in Karnataka and other states, and co-founding wall-painting project Freedom Wall in Bangalore.[1][2]

Biography

Starting his social work in Gujarat, he later dedicated himself to help people in dealing with their social issues in Bangalore, Karnataka. Earlier, he had volunteered for Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Karnataka.[2]

Frequent in the Reddit page called r/bangalore, he is known in the page as St Broseph.[2] He also co-founded the project Freedom Wall, dedicated to putting up murals of notable Indian figures in street walls.[3]

In May 2023, he went viral on social media for clearing floodwater in Indiranagar.[4]

Dubey has stated that he has quit his job in order to focus his efforts full time on his social activities.

Social Activities

Justice for Aditya Prabhu

Following the suicide of Aditya Prabhu, a student who was allegedly caught cheating and was reprimanded by the authorities, Dubey began a movement in order to ensure that such incidents do not occur again.[5] He also organised an event "Save Our Students" on 10 September 2023, where prominent personalities spoke regarding the issue.[6]

St. Broseph Army

Inspired by Dubey's social work volunteers across Bangalore and other cities began following him on social media, and offering help however they could.[7] Over time, they referred to themselves as the St. Broseph Army considering him their inspiration. In order to streamline the volunteering activities, Dubey began several chapters where people could join and provide him assistance as required. Each chapter has a head who looks after the overall functioning of the chapter, and multiple coordinators who take care of their respective area of expertise such as civic issues, medical issues, etc. The headquarters of the group, known as the St. Broseph HQ, was established in 2023 in Indiranagar, Bangalore.

Right to Protest

In 2022, there was an order passed by the Karnataka state government that confined any protests in Bangalore to Freedom Park.[8] Stating that protests need to occur close to the issues in question, and not in a far off park, Dubey, along with several student organisations submitted an ultimatum to the state government to revoke the order.[9] The students expressed that protesting is a fundamental right and limiting it is a gross violation of Article 19 of the constitution.
