Eqbaliyeh (Шаблон:Lang-fa; formerly, Soltanabad-e Eqbaliyeh (Шаблон:Lang-fa, also Romanized as Solţānābād-e Eqbālīyeh, or simply Solţānābād or Sultanabad)[1] is a city in the Central District of Qazvin County, Qazvin province, Iran. Eqbaliyeh is one of the old cities of Qazvin province and has an area of about 47.3 square kilometers. It is 5 kilometers southwest of Qazvin city, on the main road of this city to Hamedan and Zanjan.[2]

History

This city, which is one of the 12 cities of Qazvin province, was previously called Sultanabad, and after the revolution 1979, it was named Islamabad, which was renamed Eqbaliyeh in 1370.[3][4]

On October 6th, 2023 there are videos posted to social media depicting mob violence against Afghan refugees and chants expressing for them to leave Iran. Police arrested 19 reportedly for the incident. [5]

Population

At the 2006 census, its population was 49,230 in 12,082 households.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 55,498 people in 15,403 households.[7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 55,066 people in 16,154 households.[8]

In the population and housing census of 2016, the population of Eqbaliyeh was 55066. Among them, 28,441 men and 26,625 women were declared, and the total number of households in this city is 16,154.[9]

Teppe Eqbalieh

The hill of Eqbalieh is related to the post-Islamic historical periods and is located in Qazvin city, central part, Eqbalieh city, and this work was registered as one of the national works of Iran on 22 August 2004 with registration number 13249. Also, Vilayat Park is located next to this hill, which has become a recreation area for the residents of this city.[10]
