Шаблон:Short description Шаблон:Multiple issues Шаблон:Infobox company Eurosender is a digital freight forwarder with a modern logistics platform that facilitates door-to-door shipping services for businesses and individuals. Established in 2014 by Slovenian entrepreneur Jan Štefe,[1] Eurosender quickly gained prominence in the logistics industry.

The company aims to streamline and simplify the shipping process by providing a digital platform with advanced automation capabilities for booking and managing shipments globally, empowering companies to create their own digital logistics department and increase performance. Eurosender provides postal, courier and freight forwarding services.

The company's headquarters is located in Luxembourg, with an additional office in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and it operates globally, connecting customers with a network of reputable logistics providers.

History

The idea for Eurosender started in 2013. While the founder was studying abroad, he wanted to bring some of his business back to his home country of Slovenia. However, he found himself faced with a problem: the delivery companies were offering him a price that was too high for what he could afford.

To address this problem, he invented the concept of a search engine that would instantly calculate the final price of a shipment and choose the most affordable option based on three parameters: the route, the number of packages and their weight. The domain of Eurosender was created on February 2, 2014. At its inception, the first version of the platform was created, and the first contracts with shipping and courier companies (such as UPS, DPD, DHL, GLS, ACS, DB Schenker, FedEx etc.)[2] were negotiated, enabling them to offer shipping rates up to 70% lower than standard courier fares.[3]

In their pursuit of expanding their business within the European market and encountering limited support within the Slovenian startup community, the founder embarked on a quest to find a more conducive environment for fostering their company's growth. After a few months of exploration, Eurosender achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Slovenian company to be accepted into the prestigious ProSiebenSat 1 accelerator, in Munich, Germany.

Participation in the intensive accelerator program, coupled with the unwavering support of the German startup community, proved instrumental for Eurosender's trajectory. During this period, the company successfully secured pre-seed investments totalling 65.000 €, with 25.000 € from ProSiebenSat 1 and 40.000 € from Silicon Gardens. This initial infusion of capital and the valuable network cultivated through the accelerator played a pivotal role in establishing Eurosender's presence in key European markets.

Buoyed by the support and resources garnered from the accelerator, Eurosender not only solidified its standing in the market but also expanded its business model to cater to Business-to-Business (B2B) customers. This strategic move marked a significant evolution for Eurosender, allowing the company to diversify its clientele and broaden its impact within the logistics and shipping sector.

The journey from seeking support in the Slovenian startup community to becoming a trailblazer in the ProSiebenSat 1 accelerator exemplifies Eurosender's commitment to growth, innovation, and adaptability. The successful integration of B2B services stands as a testament to the company's agility and resilience in navigating the dynamic landscape of the European business ecosystem.

In May 2016, German multinational insurance group ERGO Group invested 300,000 € in Eurosender while becoming an integrated provider of package insurance for deliveries processed through the platform.

Leveraging the strong connections forged within the expansive European startup and business network, Eurosender underwent a high evolution. What once started as a local enterprise serving predominantly students and expatriates has successfully transformed into a formidable door-to-door shipping service catering to the broader European market.

In May 2023, Eurosender achieved another important milestone, the company officially became a freight forwarder.

Partnerships

In a significant move in 2017, Eurosender established a strategic partnership with Pošta Slovenije, a major player in the shipping sector in Central Europe. This collaboration expanded Eurosender's reach, enabling shipping services to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Montenegro.[4]

In September 2017, Eurosender announced a partnership with Parcelly, a London-based service for collecting parcels.[5] Later in December 2017, the company partnered with Post Luxembourg, a Luxembourgish telecom and postal provider.[6]

International expansion

Since its launch, Eurosender platform has been providing shipping and delivery services across all member countries of the European Union. With a diverse international team and a strategic presence in all regions of Europe, Eurosender places a strong emphasis on engaging with local markets to gain a deeper understanding of customer needs and deliver tailored services.

By joining one of the most prestigious accelerators in Europe, ProSiebenSat.1, Eurosender became better equipped fror optimization of the delivery network in Western Europe. Initially confined to Portugal and Spain in 2014, Eurosender progressively expanded its operations. A year later, the company created one of its agencies in London, in the largest technology accelerator, Level39,[7] based in Canary Wharf.

In 2016, Eurosender became a member of RocketSpace, a growth incubator in San Francisco, where corporations and startups come together to create and imagine the future of the transportation sector. Later that year, the company opened a new branch in Berlin. Also in 2016, the platform extended its services to Croatia, Poland, and Greece, and subsequently, it rapidly included France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

The company's commitment to visibility and outreach is evident through various press conferences held to enhance its presence. Notably, Eurosender has received support from entities such as UKTI and various Slovenian embassies across different European countries.

The year 2018 marked another milestone as Eurosender ventured into Belgian territory, solidifying its presence in more than 30 European countries.[8] Furthermore, Eurosender opened new premises in Ljubljana and received a visit from the President of Slovenia.

This expansion showcases Eurosender's dynamic growth trajectory and its commitment to serving a diverse and widespread clientele throughout the globe.

Platform

The company's automated platform[9] compares thousands of quotes and services from the best international logistics companies in a matter of seconds, showing their clients the best-performing option for their route and preferred type of service.

Eurosender's algorithm is what allows it to obtain a price simulation for each shipment. Thus, the company has access to 150 million quotes instantly. This algorithm would offer prices up to 70% lower compared to similar solutions.

All the quotes are pre-negotiated, and all the booking options are now digital, meaning that with only a few clicks, a client can book a parcel delivery, pallet transport, van delivery or an entire truck.

Services

Eurosender acts as a digital freight forwarder, fulfilling the intermediary role between customers and multiple logistics suppliers. Eurosender offers a wide range of services that can fulfil any type of request from businesses or individuals. Originally designed to ship packages, the company quickly offered many other services, including shipping pallets, offering help with relocations and road freight. Customers also have the option of booking full trucks and vans.

The company's international network of more than 100 global logistics partners allows them to offer competitive prices and worldwide solutions. Eurosender developed a system that automatically calculates final prices for every individual shipping route. By aggregating a high number of orders, Eurosender is able to negotiate better prices with delivery service providers. Parcel shipments have basic insurance automatically added to the price, and additional insurance can be added for very affordable prices. Every shipment has real-time tracking.

Eurosender also responds to the needs of expatriates and students living abroad on exchange programs such as the Erasmus programme.

Since its start, Eurosender has partnered with many major global couriers, including DHL, DPD, GLS, UPS, FedEx, and Kuehne + Nagel.
