Early and personal life

Career

Romano started writing about football in 2009, while still studying in high school.[4] His career as a football transfer journalist began in 2011, after receiving inside information from an Italian agent in Barcelona regarding then-FC Barcelona player Mauro Icardi.[2] Since joining Sky Sport Italy in 2012,[5] he has created and built contacts with clubs, agents and intermediaries all over Europe.[6] Romano also works as a reporter for The Guardian and CBS Sports.[6] He is based in Milan.[7]

Romano is known for his use of the tagline "Here we go!", used when announcing a transfer deal.[6] According to 90min, he is one of the "most trusted" transfer-related pundits in the sport.[7] Because of his reputation and social media following, several football clubs have asked him to participate in player announcement videos.[8]

In 2022, Romano was included in the European Forbes 30 Under 30 list for media and marketing.[9]

In February 2024, Tipsbladet reported that they had obtained documentation indicating that the company associated with Romano had reached out to various football clubs, including those in Denmark, offering them the opportunity to purchase mentions on Romano's social media platforms.[10]
