Fairy Tale is a 2023 lighthearted romantic comedy Pakistani television series, starring Sehar Khan and Hamza Sohail in the lead roles. Written by Sarah Majeed, directed by Ali Hasan, and produced by Momina Duraid under the banner of MD Productions. The series originally aired on Hum TV from 23 March 2023 to 22 April 2023 during Ramadan. The second season of the series named "Fairy Tale 2" premiered on 5 August 2023 and concluded on 25 November 2023 with 15 episodes. [1]

Plot

Season 1

The first season revolves around Umeed, a young middle-class girl who dreams of living a wealthy and luxurious life and is always on the lookout for get-rich-quick schemes. She has a very bright personality. In her overwhelming quest, something fantastical falls in Umeed’s lap when she receives an invitation to a show that promises to make her dreams come true but she soon realizes that there are no fairies or magical spells in real life and everything comes with a hefty price tag. Undeterred, Umeed sets out on a journey to make her dreams a reality, encountering quirky characters and learning valuable lessons about life, love, relationships, and happiness. She also falls into a love triangle. With the help of her friends and family, Umeed discovers that the real magic in life comes from within.[2][3]

Season 2

As Umeed lives through her dream of winning the show and fortune from Socho Pakistan, the unexpected turn that her life took, turned out to be her major feat of life, the triumph of love. As Farjaad and Umeed finally embrace their love for each other, some new challenges fall in their way. With all the stars nearly aligned in the way of their amour, Farjaad and Umeed move forward towards their happily ever after. With more and more obstacles falling in the way of union of the hearts, Fairy Tale 2 keeps taking the exciting turns keeping the audiences hooked and shocked. As the events unfold, and any problems emerging are dealt in Umeed’s style, and the drama becomes the ultimate home of laughter, romance, gags and entertainment. Will these obstacles overthrow the power of love? Or will love conquer all?

  • Sehar Khan as Umeed Pasha Khan: Farjaad's wife; Mimi’s best friend and sister-in-law; Haya's cousin and Sameer's sister. A happy go lucky yet ambitious young girl who is at odds with her family and Farjaad initially. (Season 1 - present)
  • Hamza Sohail as Farjaad Khan:Umeed's husband; Mimi’s brother; Niggo's son. He is very responsible, punctual and strict about his rules. He maintains a tough demeanor though he is soft hearted on the inside. (Season 1 - present)
  • Ali Safina as AK / Asadulla Khan: A game show host and Farjaad's family friend. (Season 1)
  • Amna Youzasaif as Mariam / Mimi: Farjaad's sister; Umeed's best friend and sister-in-law; Niggo's daughter. She later develops a liking of 'AK'. (Season 1 - present)
  • Saman Ansari as Nighat / Niggo:Farjaad and Mimi's mother and Umeed's mother-in-law. (Season 1 - present)
  • Aena Khan as Haya Pasha: Umeed's cousin and Sameer's fianceé. She gets married in the season 3.(Season 1 - present)

Production

Season 1

On 5 January 2023, Galaxy Lollywood reported that Sehar Khan, Hamza Sohail, Mustafa Babar and Aena Khan will play the leading roles in the Hum TV's upcoming Ramadan play, which is tentatively titled Qismat, and which is written by Sarah Majeed, and will be directed by Ali Hassan.[4] Later, it was reported that Babar had been replaced by Adnan Raza Mir, the brother of the actor Ahad Raza Mir.[5]

Season 2

The network concluded the series with a tagline of "To be continued..." due to which it was speculated that the series will have a next season. The writer Sarah Majeed further confirmed it on 3 May 2023 through an Instagram post.[6] Hum TV revealed the cast of the series covering the original OST of the show on 29 June 2023 as an official announcement of the upcoming season.[7]

Reception

The series received positive responses from twitter users for protagonists' characters for being well written and the portrayal of romance.[8]

Galaxy Lollywood praised the performance and chemistry of the lead couple.[9] While reviewing the series in the section The Tube, Sadaf Haider of Dawn praised the writing stating, "Writer Sarah Majeed has given us a bubbly, young show full of life, adventure and good humour that is reminiscent of the classic dramas of Hasina Moin."[10]

Sequel

On 4 September 2023, The writer for the series Sarah Majeed revealed in a Tweet with the text "Season 3", predict that the "Season 3" for the series is coming or in under production.But no official announcement from the original network (Hum TV) or the Producer Momina Duraid has made. [11][12]
