It was produced by Oscar Scheller and Blake Xterra and released on February 21, 2024, through Interlude Records. The song is a follow-up to her debut single "It Girl" which went viral on TikTok.

Background, release, and composition

Paper Magazine called it a braggadocious rap track that slips into gleaming handbag house.[1]

Girls United said with its up-tempo beat and hook, the Zillennial continues to show fans she's a true artist and taps into her inner house music influences. Aliyah also said “‘Fashion Icon’ is a song about the creatives out there who do the most with the least.“ "The fashion icons who could make a trash bag look FAB. I can’t wait for you guys to experience and love this song as much as I do.”[2]

Music Video

The music video features Aliyah walking with her friends in New York City, they then are seen at a skating rink with her dressed in Y2K harajuku attire, at the end she goes to a party with her friends. It was released two days after the single and unlike the music video for "It Girl" was produced more professionally.[3]
