As a member of the "Big Five", France automatically qualifies to compete in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Background

Шаблон:Main

Prior to the 2024 contest, France has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest sixty-five times since its debut as one of seven countries to take part in Шаблон:Escyr.[1] France first won the contest in Шаблон:Esccnty with "Шаблон:Lang" performed by André Claveau. In the 1960s, they won three times, with "Tom Pillibi" performed by Jacqueline Boyer in Шаблон:Esccnty, "Шаблон:Lang" performed by Isabelle Aubret in Шаблон:Esccnty, and "Шаблон:Lang" performed by Frida Boccara, who won in Шаблон:Esccnty in a four-way tie with the Шаблон:Esccnty, Шаблон:Esccnty, and the Шаблон:Esccnty. France's fifth – and so far latest – victory came in Шаблон:Esccnty when Marie Myriam won with the song "Шаблон:Lang". France has also finished second five times, with Paule Desjardins in Шаблон:Esccnty, Catherine Ferry in Шаблон:Esccnty, Joëlle Ursull in Шаблон:Esccnty, Amina in Шаблон:Esccnty (who lost out to Шаблон:Esccnty's Carola in a tie-break), and Barbara Pravi in Шаблон:Esccnty. In the 21st century, France has had less success, only making the top ten five times, with Natasha St-Pier finishing fourth in Шаблон:Esccnty, Sandrine François finishing fifth in Шаблон:Esccnty, Patricia Kaas finishing eighth in Шаблон:Esccnty, Amir finishing sixth in Шаблон:Esccnty, and Pravi finishing second in 2021 with 499 points. In Шаблон:Esccnty, the nation finished in 16th place with the song "Шаблон:Lang" performed by La Zarra.[1]

The French national broadcaster, Шаблон:Lang, broadcasts the event within the country and delegates the selection of the nation's entry to the television channel Шаблон:Lang. The French broadcaster has used both national finals and internal selections to choose the country's entry in the past. In 2021 and Шаблон:Esccnty, the French entries were selected via the national final Шаблон:Lang,[2] a format which was also planned to be held in 2023 but was ultimately cancelled in favour of an internal selection.[3] In June 2023, Шаблон:Lang confirmed their intention to participate in the 2024 contest.[4]

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

On 8 November 2023, Шаблон:Lang announced that it had internally selected Slimane with the song "Шаблон:Lang" as the French entrant for the 2024 contest.[5] The song, composed by Slimane with Yaacov and Meïr Salah, was presented to the public on the same day, during the evening news bulletin Шаблон:Lang hosted by Anne-Sophie Lapix on France 2.[6][7]

As part of the promotion of his participation in the contest, Slimane confirmed his presence at the PrePartyES in Madrid on 30 March 2024, the Barcelona Eurovision Party on 6 April 2024, the London Eurovision Party on 7 April 2024, the Eurovision in Concert event in Amsterdam on 13 April 2024, the Nordic Eurovision Party in Stockholm on 14 April 14 2024, and the Copenhagen Eurovision Party on 4 May 2024.[8][9]
