Gerald Geraghty (August 10, 1906 – July 8, 1954) was an American screenwriter, mostly of Westerns.[1]

Early life and family

Geraghty was born in Rushville, Indiana.[2] His father was screenwriter Tom Geraghty. His brother Maurice was also a screenwriter;[1] and his sister was silent film actress and painter Carmelita Geraghty.[3] Geraghty and his family moved to Hollywood when he was young. He was a graduate of Hollywood High School and Princeton University.

Career

Before he wrote for films, Geraghty wrote stories for magazines.[2] Geraghty first worked with films as a writer of subtitles for the silent version of Street of Chance (1930).[3]

Geraghty also wrote Gene Autry Rides, a Sunday newspaper comic strip that began in 1940 and ended in 1942.[4]

Personal life

Geraghty was married to the former Gretchen Darling, and they had a daughter, Erin. They were divorced on December 1, 1949.[5] When he died, his wife was named Marcia, and he also had a son,[2]

He died from a cerebral haemorrhage.[1]
