German submarine U-2505 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II. She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 23 May 1944 at the Blohm & Voss yard at Hamburg, as yard number 2505. She was launched on 27 July 1944, and commissioned under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Joachim Düppe on 7 November 1944.[1]

Design

Like all Type XXI U-boats, U-2505 had a displacement of Шаблон:Convert when at the surface and Шаблон:Convert while submerged. She had a total length of Шаблон:Convert (o/a), a beam of Шаблон:Convert, and a draught of Шаблон:Convert.Шаблон:Sfn The submarine was powered by two MAN SE supercharged six-cylinder M6V40/46KBB diesel engines each providing Шаблон:Convert, two Siemens-Schuckert GU365/30 double-acting electric motors each providing Шаблон:Convert, and two Siemens-Schuckert silent running GV232/28 electric motors each providing Шаблон:Convert.Шаблон:Sfn

The submarine had a maximum surface speed of Шаблон:Convert and a submerged speed of Шаблон:Convert. When running on silent motors the boat could operate at a speed of Шаблон:Convert. When submerged, the boat could operate at Шаблон:Convert for Шаблон:Convert; when surfaced, she could travel Шаблон:Convert at Шаблон:Convert.Шаблон:Sfn U-2505 was fitted with six Шаблон:Convert torpedo tubes in the bow and four [[2 cm FlaK 30|Шаблон:Convert C/30]] anti-aircraft guns. She could carry twenty-three torpedoes or seventeen torpedoes and twelve mines. The complement was five officers and fifty-two men.Шаблон:Sfn

Fate

U-2505 was buried in Elbe II U-boat pens in Hamburg after German surrender. Шаблон:GS and Шаблон:GS buried with her also.[1][2]

Previously recorded fate

U-2505 was scuttled on 3 May 1945, in the Elbe II U-boat pen in Hamburg as part of Operation Regenbogen.[1]
