Gunadasa Amarasekera (born 1929) is a prominent Sinhala writer, poet, and essayist from Sri Lanka.[1][2]
Early life and education
Gunadasa Amarasekera was born in Yattalamatta in Galle District. He was educated at Mahinda College, Galle and Nalanda College Colombo.[3][4][5]
In the early 1950s, his short story “Soma” was selected to represent Ceylon in a world short story competition organized by the New York Herald Tribune. It was published in the collection of World Prize Stories in 1952.[6]
Dr Amarasekara was presented with the Nalanda Keerthi Sri award in 2010 by his alma mater Nalanda College, Colombo.[7][8][9]
Amarasekera is a graduate of University of Ceylon and is a Dental Surgeon by profession. He is one of the founding fathers of the Peradeniya school of literary tradition of modern Sri Lankan literature.[10]
