Biography

Barclay was a professor at the University of Tulsa.[2] She later became Chair of the Botany Department in 1953.[3]

She also taught at universities across America: Colorado,[4] Arkansas, Illinois, and North Carolina.[5]

Harriet George Barclay collected over 35,000[6] plants from 6 different continents,[7] including 15,000 different specimens from South America while conducting research there.[8]

She has over 2,000 specimens on record as identified or collected.[9][10]

Accomplishments

Barclay was instrumental in getting the Nature Conservancy in Washington, D.C. to lease land to the University of Tulsa for Redbud Valley Nature Preserve - the first project of its kind in Oklahoma.[14][15]
