Consequently, passengers consistently prefer Haryana Roadways as their first choice when it comes to public transportation.
History
In 1966, when Haryana was separated from Punjab, the need for a distinct transport unit became apparent. This unit was essential to efficiently connect every part of the state. In response, the Haryana Road Transport Limited (HRTL) was established in 1966, initially comprising two Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs). Later, on 1 December 1987, three additional RTAs were appointed in Ambala, Hisar, and Faridabad. Subsequently, on 16 January 1991, three more RTAs were established in Rohtak, Karnal, and Rewari.[1]
Presently, every district headquarters hosts a Regional Transport Office (RTO) led by a Regional Transport Secretary. Individuals can obtain vehicle registrations and driving licenses from both district headquarters (RTA offices) and Tehsil headquarters (typically headed by the Subdivisional Officer - Civil, or SDO-Civil).[2] This network ensures convenient access to these essential services across the state.
Introduction
The office of the Director General State Transport is responsible for providing well-coordinated, economical, safe and efficient transport action services to the public of the State. Haryana Roadways, a State Government Undertaking, is the principal service provider for passenger transport in the State. Over the years, Haryana Roadways has earned a name for itself for the range and quality of services provided by it. In tune with the emerging requirements of the travelling public, Haryana Roadways has undertaken a series of new initiatives to provide better services to its clients. New Volvo AC bus services 'Saarthi' have been introduced on Chandigarh-Delhi-Gurgaon, Chandigarh-Delhi-Faridabad routes. Some of the trips are also touching the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and the domestic Airport, Delhi. Ten such buses are already in operation.
Fleet of buses
Haryana Roadways stands as the primary provider of passenger transport services in the State, boasting a fleet of approximately 4500 buses. These buses operate from 24 depots, each overseen by a General Manager, and 17 sub-depots functioning under the respective depots. The services extend across every corner of the State and reach significant destinations in neighboring States. Covering an impressive average of 1.11 million kilometers daily, Haryana Roadways carries around 1.12 million passengers on 1116 Intra-State and 446 Inter-State routes.[3]
Additionally, new services like the 'Saarthi' Volvo AC buses have been introduced on specific routes. Notably, some routes include stops at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Safdarjung Airport in Delhi.
Furthermore, a novel bus service named 'Haryana Gaurav,' fondly recognized as ‘Aam Adami Ki Khas Bus,’ has been launched. These buses offer contemporary amenities such as Deluxe 2x2 seats, FM radio, mobile charger, pneumatically operated D=doors, tinted glass, and curtains, all at standard bus fares. Currently, about 200 of these buses are operational on various routes and are expected to become an integral part of Haryana Roadways' distinctive services.
Additionally, 'Haryana Uday' CNG bus services have been initiated in the National Capital Region. Presently, 300 buses operate on different routes within the NCR of the state.
HREC
Haryana Roadways Engineering Corporation Ltd. is a subsidiary of Haryana Roadways. It was incorporated on 27 November 1987 in Gurgaon. It was established to fabricate bus bodies, mainly for Haryana Roadways. It fabricated 503 bodies in 2010-2011 alone. It is a profit making organisation which registered a profit of Шаблон:Indian Rupee5.86 crores in year 2010–2011.[4]

Haryana has vast network of at least 32 National Highways (NH) with total length of Шаблон:Cvt, 11 Expressways including three National Expressway, State Highways (SH) with total length of Шаблон:Cvt, Major District Roads (MDR) major district roads with Шаблон:Cvt length and Other District Roads (ODR) with a length of Шаблон:Cvt (2016).[5]
