Hiro is a given name of Japanese, Polynesian, Spanish and Greek origin.[1] The Japanese given name Шаблон:Nihongo has multiple meanings, dependent on the characters used. The kanji 裕 means "abundant". 寛 means "generous, tolerant" and 浩 means "prosperous".[2] It is a unisex name in Japanese, but predominantly used by males. Hiro is also a Polynesian masculine given name with origins in Tahitian and Polynesian mythology.[3][4] Hiro is also a Spanish and Greek masculine name which is a variant form of Chairo and Jerome.[1][5] It means "sacred name".[5] Related given names are Hero and Iro which have Ancient Greek origin.[6] Hiro is a wordplay and paronym of hero.[7]

- On Easter Island is an ancient stone aerophone called the Pu o Hiro (Trumpet of Hiro) to invoke the god of rain Hiro in the easternmost Polynesian culture of the Rapa Nui.[8]
