Шаблон:More citations needed Ildiger was a Byzantine General of Germanic Descent about the year 500(AD). He was the son-in-law of Antonina who was the wife of his superior(Belisarius). His most prominent tale is under Belisarius during the Gothic War (535–554), after John, leader of a small cavalry force was ordered to attack the Gothic capital, had captured the port city of Ariminum (Rimini), an important city about a day away from Ravenna(The Gothic Capital). This forced The Ostrogoths to end their siege of Rome, to retake the important port city. This was all to John's plan, however in defiance of his superior Belisarius. As John was only in charge of cavalry which would be useless in a siege defense, Belisarius sent about 1000 men, led by Ildiger and the Byzantine General Martinos, to take control of the defense of Ariminum, However, Belisarius' rival, Narses had helped John lift the siege mid 538(AD).[1]
