Epirus in antiquity

Ilium or Ilion (Шаблон:Lang-grc), also known as Troja (Τροΐα),[1] was a city of ancient Epirus.[2] It is mentioned in the Aeneid of Virgil as a foundation of Helenus after the Trojan War in the land of the Chaonia.[3]

Its site is located near the modern village of Despotiko in Greece.[4][5] The village was formerly known as Kretsounista.[6]
