The systematic name of this enzyme class is alcohol:NAD(P)+ oxidoreductase. Other names in common use include retinal reductase, aldehyde reductase (NADPH/NADH), and alcohol dehydrogenase [NAD(P)]. This enzyme participates in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis.
