Alexander W. Barrie (18 August 1878 – 1 October 1918) was a Scottish professional footballer who played in the Scottish League for Kilmarnock, Rangers and St Bernard's as a centre half.[1][2] He also played in the Football League for Sunderland and was capped by Scotland at junior level.[3][4]

Personal life

Barrie served as a corporal in the Highland Light Infantry during the First World War and was killed during the Battle of the Canal du Nord on 1 October 1918,[5] just over five weeks before the armistice.[6] He was buried in Flesquières Hill British Cemetery.[7]
